Prof. Stephanie Faubion

Professor Stephanie Faubion is a leading global authority on menopause and women's health, with over a decade of clinical experience at Mayo Clinic’s Women’s Health Clinic. She serves as the Penny and Bill George Director for Mayo Clinic’s Center for Women’s Health and Medical Director for The North American Menopause Society. Dr. Faubion’s groundbreaking research focuses on menopause management, hormone therapy, and the interplay of physiological and environmental factors on menopausal symptoms. Through innovative tools like the DREAMS database, she advances evidence-based care, improving outcomes for women navigating menopause and related health challenges.

Prof. Hadine Joffe

Professor Hadine Joffe, MD, MSc, is the Paula A. Johnson Endowed Professor of Psychiatry in Women’s Health at Harvard Medical School. She serves as Executive Director of the Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology and Executive Vice Chair for Academic and Faculty Affairs in Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. A leading expert in women’s mental health and aging, her NIH-funded research explores menopause-related neuropsychological symptoms, including how sleep disruption influences body fat gain and stress-related neural networks.

Prof. Jill Liss

Professor Jill Liss is an accomplished menopause expert, Assistant Professor, and Clinical Content Director for OBGYN at the University of Colorado. A NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner, she specializes in menopause management, hormone replacement therapy, and patient-centered care through the lifespan. Dr. Liss’s clinical interests include treating abnormal uterine bleeding, tailoring menopause care to individual needs, and advancing gender-affirming gynecological care. Recognized for her excellence in teaching and mentorship, she is committed to integrating the latest evidence into practice to improve outcomes for women navigating menopause and related health transitions.

Learning objectives

  1. Identify and Manage VMS in Menopausal Women, including being able to apply an understanding of the role of underlying mechanisms such as the hypothalamic KNDy system:
  • Identify VMS in menopausal women by recognising patient-reported symptoms that indicate a need for intervention, and using validated assessment tools to evaluate symptom severity and impact on daily life.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans for VMS based on patient response and tolerance by conducting follow-up evaluations and adjusting treatment regimens as necessary.
  • Appraise the latest evidence on non-hormonal treatment options, such as neurokinin receptor antagonists Recognise and apply an understanding of the role of underlying mechanisms in VMS, such as the hypothalamic KNDy system
  1. Counsel on Cardiovascular Health Risks Associated with the Menopause Transition:
  • Discuss changes in cardiovascular risk across the menopause transition.
  • Explain a personalized risk reduction strategy.
  1. Implement Comprehensive Management Approaches for Sleep Disturbances and Mood Changes:
  • Evaluate the interconnected nature of sleep disturbances, mood changes and VMS by assessing patients holistically with appropriate screening tools, and recognising the impact of untreated symptoms.
  • Review the risks and benefits of current pharmacological and behavioural interventions to address both sleep and mood symptoms effectively, based on the patient’s symptom profile and preferences
  • Evaluate the latest safety and efficacy data on non-hormonal interventions to provide comprehensive management options for patients
  • Educate patients on the importance of treating sleep and mood symptoms by providing resources and self-management strategies.
