Description

This activity is supported by an independent education grant from Lilly. This online education program has been designed solely for healthcare professionals in the US. It is not suitable for healthcare professionals in any other country.

Join leading expert Dr Andrea Matsumura for this accredited virtual masterclass. This is a 60-minute live-virtual, interactive MDT co-management masterclass designed to bridge system silos and specialty gaps in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and obesity management. This masterclass addresses clinical care fragmentation by empowering healthcare professionals to transition from siloed, symptom-based care to integrated, cardiometabolic risk-based protocols within resourced health systems.

Participants will navigate integrated care pathways within simulated health systems to identify critical clinical hand-off points and establish longitudinal care continuity. Through case-based "silo" stress tests, expert modeling, and integrated workflow mapping, attendees will learn to apply bi-directional referral protocols, eliminate role ambiguity between primary care and specialists, and co-author care plans that bridge metabolic and sleep health.

Session Highlights

  • Cardiometabolic Risk Framing: Unify obesity and OSA into broader care pathways by shifting from isolated symptom management to integrated risk-based care.
  • Multidisciplinary Co-Management: Clear role ambiguity between primary care clinicians and specialists through structured, bi-directional referral protocols.
  • Simulated "Silo" Stress Tests: Navigate simulated health system scenarios to test care pathways and pinpoint essential clinical hand-off points.
  • Workflow Mapping & Toolkits: Utilize risk-stratification algorithms and point-of-care aids to build co-authored, long-term management plans.

Learning objectives

1: Evaluate the bidirectional relationship between obesity and OSA to inform cardiometabolic risk assessment, demonstrating accurate identification of OSA risk within ≥75% of post-activity case-based assessments.

2: Identify patients at increased risk of OSA using clinical features and comorbidities in primary care, achieving appropriate risk stratification in ≥75% of applied clinical scenarios.

3: Apply workflow-compatible screening and triage strategies to support early identification of OSA, demonstrating correct use of structured tools and decision pathways in ≥75% of simulation-based exercises.

4: Select appropriate diagnostic and referral pathways, including HSAT, based on clinical presentation and practice context, achieving appropriate pathway activation in ≥75% of case-based assessments.

5: Apply longitudinal management and treatment progression strategies in OSA care planning to support sustained disease control, demonstrating appropriate decision-making in ≥70% of longitudinal case exercises.

6: Apply contextually adapted care strategies that account for socioeconomic and practice-setting factors to support equitable diagnostic and management decisions in OSA, demonstrating appropriate decision-making in ≥70% of applied scenarios.
