Description

This activity is supported by an independent education grant from Lilly. This online education program has been designed for healthcare professionals globally.

Join leading expert Prof Brendon Yee, MBChB, FRACP, PhD for this accredited virtual live webinar. Utilizing local-expert-led, case-based sessions featuring real-world clinical vignettes and interactive real-time polling, this 60-minute live-virtual webinar series equips primary care physicians and sleep specialists with the practical, evidence-based strategies needed to confidently manage moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Tailored to regional healthcare system archetypes globally, these interactive sessions focus on integrating OSA diagnostics into routine cardiometabolic risk reviews, optimizing multimodal treatment escalation, and establishing streamlined care pathways.

Participants will gain actionable strategies for identifying high-risk patients using validated screening tools and initiating Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT)-supported diagnostic pathways to reduce diagnostic delays and optimize referral timing. Furthermore, learners will acquire tactical insights for navigating positive airway pressure (PAP) troubleshooting, combining device therapy with weight-loss and cardiometabolic interventions, and implementing collaborative multidisciplinary follow-up frameworks across specialities to maximize long-term patient outcomes.

Session Highlights

  • Integrating OSA into Cardiometabolic Risk Assessment: Faculty will review a case involving a patient with resistant hypertension and obesity who was not screened for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), demonstrating exactly when to deploy validated tools and how to incorporate OSA into routine cardiometabolic risk reviews.
  • Implementing Multimodal, Evidence-Based Treatment: Using a clinical scenario of a patient on positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy who displays persistent symptoms and worsening metabolic risk, faculty will demonstrate multimodal escalation strategies that combine PAP troubleshooting, cardiometabolic management, and weight-loss therapy.
  • Applying Screening Tools and HSAT-Supported Pathways: Participants will walk through a case where a high-risk patient faces a delayed referral due to unclear clinical thresholds, learning proper screening tool selection, home sleep apnea test (HSAT) initiation to support a timely diagnosis, and structured referral timing.
  • Planning Multidisciplinary OSA Care: Addressing a case scenario where a specialist clinic defaults to treating OSA with PAP therapy alone, faculty will model an integrated management plan that coordinates obesity management, oral appliances, cardiometabolic evaluation, and structured follow-up across medical specialties.
  • Implementing Simplified Diagnostic Algorithms: To address cases where high-risk patients face months-long wait times for laboratory polysomnography, the session will demonstrate streamlined screening methods, HSAT-first algorithms, and integrated pathways that directly link obesity, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and OSA care.

Who Should Watch

This program is designed for healthcare professionals globally involved in the frontline screening, diagnosis, and long-term clinical management of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) including:

  • Primary Care Physicians (General Practitioners)
  • Sleep Specialists

Faculty

Professor Brendon Yee, MBChB, FRACP, PhD is a Staff Specialist in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine and the Medical Director of Respiratory Failure Services at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, as well as a consultant for Rural Outreach Services in Central Western New South Wales. A graduate of the University of Otago, New Zealand, he completed sleep fellowships in Wellington and Sydney before earning a PhD for his research on the metabolic effects of sleep apnea and weight loss. Reflecting his commitment to the field, Professor Yee is a former Australasian Sleep Association Young Investigator Award winner and has held prominent leadership roles, including serving as the past Chair of the Professional Standards Committee of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and as a member of the Clinical Committee of the Australasian Sleep Association.

Learning objectives

  1. Integrate OSA diagnosis into cardiometabolic risk assessment and management through screening of high-risk patients and coordinated cardiometabolic care.
  2. Implement evidence-based, multimodal OSA treatment plans that integrate PAP therapy, cardiometabolic management, and emerging pharmacotherapy, applying a multidisciplinary, chronic-disease model.
  3. Apply validated OSA screening tools and HSAT-supported diagnostic pathways in primary care to identify patients with suspected moderate-to-severe OSA, facilitate appropriate referral, and initiate structured, chronic disease-model follow-up.
  4. Develop multidisciplinary OSA management plans that systematically address obesity co-management, PAP alternatives, and cardiometabolic comorbidities within specialist-led and hospital-centric care environments.
  5. Implement simplified, accessible diagnostic algorithms and integrated obesity-CVD-OSA care pathways to overcome diagnostic bottlenecks, reduce care fragmentation, and improve timely access to evidence-based treatment for patients with moderate-to-severe OSA across diverse healthcare settings.
