This program is supported by an independent education grant from Lilly. This online education program has been designed for healthcare professionals globally.

In this virtual webinar, leading expert Sue Pedersen, MD explores personalised strategies for obesity care and the integration of guideline-concordant treatment approaches. Dr Pedersen is the lead author of the Obesity Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines and will provide both global and Canada-specific updates. She will review the evolution of escalation and de-escalation frameworks in clinical practice, outline evidence-based timing for advancing therapy when lifestyle interventions are insufficient, and demonstrate how to layer pharmacological options within structured follow-up workflows to optimise patient outcomes and long-term quality of life.

Presented by

Sue D. Pedersen, MD, FRCPC – Specialist in Endocrinology and Metabolism; American Board of Obesity Medicine; Clinical Lecturer, University of Calgary. Dr Pedersen’s clinical research and leadership in national and global obesity pharmacotherapy trials, as well as her authorship of the Canadian Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines, have shaped evidence-based strategies for diabetes and obesity management.

Program Schedule:

Initiate guideline-concordant, long-term obesity treatment plans - integrating individualized lifestyle counseling, evidence-based pharmacotherapy, and appropriate referral options - for eligible people with obesity. Design structured follow-up workflows - including dedicated weight-management visits, predefined monitoring metrics, and clear referral triggers - embedding obesity care into chronic disease management pathways and scheduling appropriate follow up.

20 min - Dr. Sue Pedersen

Apply current international and country-specific obesity guidelines to reassess therapy response at 3- to 6-month intervals and escalate or adjust treatment when targets are unmet. Facilitate bias-aware, patient-centred obesity care communication that elicits personal goals, addresses stigma, and co-creates individualized management plans, demonstrating effective techniques.
