Description

This program is supported through an independent educational grant from MSD. It is intended for healthcare professionals globally.

In this 15-minute on-demand session, cardiovascular expert William Callahan, DO provides practical, case-based insights on identifying and stratifying patients at elevated risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Drawing on the latest international guidelines and clinical trial evidence, Dr. Callahan demonstrates how to apply validated risk assessment tools, recognize underserved and high-need populations—including those with familial hypercholesterolaemia—and incorporate risk-enhancing factors into everyday practice.

Through real-world scenarios, participants will learn to move beyond short-term LDL-C targets and apply lifetime risk perspectives to guide earlier, more effective interventions for ASCVD prevention.

Accreditation: AffinityCE designates this activity for 0.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

This concise session uses interactive case discussions and expert commentary to help clinicians strengthen their ability to identify high-risk patients and confidently stratify ASCVD risk in diverse practice settings.

Learning Highlights

  • Recognize the role of cumulative LDL-C exposure as a driver of long-term ASCVD risk.
  • Apply validated risk tools (e.g., SCORE2, pooled cohort equations) with risk-enhancing factors such as FH and social determinants of health.
  • Stratify patients in underserved and high-need populations for earlier, more effective intervention.
  • Incorporate lifetime ASCVD risk into treatment planning to reduce long-term burden.
